Why a Lynx? The Story Behind LYNXBYTE GAMES

There has always been an animal behind our name.

LYNXBYTE GAMES was named after the lynx.

Part of the name is obvious. Lynx represents the animal. Byte represents technology and the digital world we work in.

But the lynx was never chosen randomly.

A predator with a complicated history

The Eurasian lynx is one of Europe's native large predators. For centuries, it lived across much of the continent, including the forests of Poland and the Carpathians.

Hunting, persecution and the loss and fragmentation of its habitat eventually caused the lynx to disappear from large parts of Western and Central Europe. Today, conservation and reintroduction efforts have helped the species return to some areas, while populations such as the Carpathian lynx continue to be monitored and protected.

It is a very different kind of predator from the ones usually used as company mascots.

A lynx does not rely on being the biggest or the loudest animal in the forest.

It is patient, precise and difficult to spot.

We always liked that.

And being a Polish studio made the connection even stronger. The lynx is part of the wildlife of our region, with the Carpathians remaining an important part of its European range.

From the Carpathians to the digital world

As LYNXBYTE GAMES grows, we want the animal behind our name to become a bigger part of our identity as well.

You will see our lynx appearing across the new brand as a kind of digital counterpart to the animal that inspired us in the first place.

But we do not want that connection to exist only in our logo, website or graphics.

We want it to mean something outside the digital world too.

That is why LYNXBYTE GAMES is committing a share of every project we ship to supporting lynx conservation in the Carpathian region.

The games we work on help our company grow. We want a small part of that growth to support the animal that has been part of our identity from the beginning.
